Sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive bariatric surgery, during which Dr. Schram creates a small, sleeve-shaped stomach about the size of a banana. The sleeve gastrectomy does not use malabsorption and therefore allows a wider range of foods to be consumed.

Sleeve gastrectomy is typically considered as a treatment option for bariatric surgery patients with a BMI of 35-40 with a major comorbidity or a BMI of 40 or greater. With today's excellent success rates, it has become a viable standalone procedure.
